… a superb work of art in terrazzo

terrazzo_art

Hailed as a magnificent accomplishment in master craftsmanship, this remarkable emblem, as shown above, on the terrace level at Centro Bankstown (previously Bankstown Square Shopping Centre) symbolises outstanding technological progress in the production of terrazzo floors.

Look closely and you’ll find that depicted here are several kinds of fruit including bananas, a lemon, strawberries, watermelon and cherries in addition to bread, cheese, carrots, fish, a rooster and a lobster.

Using oxides, white cement and marble chips, colours manufactured in-situ involve yellow, green, two shades of brown and two shades of pink, red and black, with apricot for the main floor.

Terrazzo tiles made and cut to size at the Smithfield works in black (50mm x 400mm) and green (200mm x 400mm) then laid on site form the attractive borders surrounding the centered emblem.

One striking highlight emerges with the words The Grand Market coloured green and laid in-situ with difficult curves hewed to match the architectural design by Mark Brandon of By-Design.
